Not a good day for our champ. He lost to Safin 6-7 (4-7) 0-6 4-6 in the final of the Paris Masters.
"While Hewitt succumbed, he could content himself with quarter and semi-final wins over Switzerland’s Roger Federer and Thai Paradorn Srichaphan, and the knowledge his lead over Andre Agassi at the top of the rankings has increased from 43 to 88 points.
“For me it was a big thrill to get through to the final,” Hewitt said. “I lost to the best player in the tournament. Marat was too good today. He’s been too good for everyone throughout the week.
“I felt like I had chances out there, especially in the first set. I felt like I just hit a bit of a wall after that.”

Wednesday September 4
Lleyton prevailed in 4 sets, 6-1 7(8)-6(6) 4-6 6-2 while struggling with his serve (low 1st serve % and 9 double faults) and too many unforced errors. He came back from a break down in the 2nd set and was down a mini break in the tie break on 2 occasions. To his credit he came back with some smart play and his customary mental strength. He lost the third set with a double fault but broke early in the 4th to seal victory. Agassi awaits in the semifinal. Agassi is in great form and will be a formidable foe. Sunday July 7 - Congratulations to Lleyton!
Lleyton thrashed David Nalbandian 6-1 6-3 6-2 to claim his
first Wimbledon title and emphatically underscore his status as the new dominant
force in men's tennis.
The 21-year-old Australian swept aside the unheralded Argentine in one of the
most one-sided finals in Wimbledon history.
Victory gave Lleyton his second Grand Slam title, following last September's win
at the US Open.
Pete Sampras was the man Lleyton took apart on that day. He seems set to
dominate the world game just like Sampras did in the 1990s.
Hewitt's victory was not achieved with the natural grasscourt style of Sampras
but instead with fast feet and baseline power more reminiscent of Andre Agassi,
the last man to win Wimbledon from the back of the court 10 years ago.
Friday July 5
Lleyton, playing possibly the best tennis of his young life,
crushed Tim Henman 7-5, 6-1, 7-5 to reach Sunday's final of The Championships in
two hours and 19 minutes.
Our world number one and top seed was irresistible. Time and again his
shots hit the lines and Henman, who had also performed brilliantly in the early
stages of the opening set, was reduced to impotence and despair by the sheer
genius of his opponent.
Thursday July 4
After being up 2 sets to love and holding four match points in the third set, Lleyton has been forced to fight out a five set quarter-final before overcoming Dutchman Sjeng Schalken at Wimbledon. Saturday June 29
Lleyton took just 88 minutes to reach the last 16 at
Wimbledon today. He overcame Austrian Julian Knowle 6-2, 6-1, 6-3 on Centre
Court to equal his best performance at The Championships. Lleyton, on course for
a semi-final date with British No.1 Tim Henman, gave an almost flawless display
with his all-action baseline game. His serve was in good working order, notching
up 16 aces and no double faults.
Thursday June 27
Lleyton held off a tough challenge from French tennis journeyman Gregory Carraz yesterday to join Mark Philippoussis and Wayne Arthurs in the third round of Wimbledon. The 6-4 7-6 (7-5) 6-2 scoreline did not indicate how close the Frenchman, a qualifier, got to our world No.1, who had a few problems with his serve. Lleyton will play Julian Knowle of Austria in the 3rd round.
Tuesday June 25
Lleyton had a comfortable straight sets win over Bjorkman 6-4, 7-5, 6-1. His next opponent will be Frenchman, Gregory Carraz.

Lleyton's class came through in the tie-break taking a 6-2 lead before taking the match with his third match point. Waiting for Lleyton in the third round is Frenchman Arnaud Clement .
Tuesday June 18
Rd 1 Rosmalen - Lleyton outlasted Michael Chang 7-6 7-6 in this tight encounter. In the second set Lleyton was up a break and serving for the match but Chang broke back to level at 5-5. Lleyton, who is the first Australian No 1 seed at Wimbledon since Newk in 1974 has been drawn to play Jonas Bjorkman in Rd 1. While Lleyton leads 4-0 in the head to head tally, this could be a big test for our champ as Jonas is a clever, all court player. It will be a great match up - the baseline counter puncher against a stylish serve volleyer.
Sunday June 16
Lleyton continued his impressive Wimbledon preparation by
winning his third successive Queen's Club tennis title in London.
The world No 1 repeated his win over Tim Henman in last year's final to complete

Sunday June 2
Lleyton lost to Guillermo Canas 7-6 (7-1) 6-7(13-15) 4-6 3-6 in a match which lasted over 4 hours. Lleyton doesn't move as well on clay relative to how well he moves on a surface where he can get his feet stuck on the court. And he hadn't been tested in this tournament. When he comes up against an excellent clay courter like Canas, he's in for a tough match. And that showed today. Lleyton knew he had to improve his unforced errors tally and his serve. He wasnt able to do that. Queens is his next tourney commencing June 10. He has a bye in the first round.
Friday May 31
