Sunday November 21
For the 6th time in as many meetings this year Federer has defeated Lleyton. The score was 6-3 6-2 in the rain delayed final match at the Masters Cup Houston. Lleyton will now return to Australia for a short break before playing the Australian summer season. He will play Adelaide, Sydney and, of course, the Australian Open where he will be the 3rd seed. Federer finished the year at No. 1 while Roddick is No. 2.
Saturday November 20
"Lleyton Hewitt won the final 20 points against a deflated Andy Roddick for a 6-3, 6-2 victory Saturday in the semifinals of the ATP Masters Cup.
Hewitt trailed 2-1 in the second set and was serving when he took complete control, holding at love and not dropping another point the rest of the way.
No. 1 Roger Federer was to meet Marat Safin in the other semifinal.
Roddick went into his matchup against Hewitt determined to volley more than he usually does -- but that didn't quite pan out. Hewitt, like Roddick a former year-end No. 1 and U.S. Open champion, improved to 4-1 against the American.
Hewitt broke Roddick in the sixth game of the first set with a lob winner. After Roddick escaped two break points in the fourth game of the first set, Hewitt held in the fifth game with a forehand down the line after returning two good forehands by Roddick.
``Come on!'' Hewitt shouted and raised a clenched fist.
Hewitt, with four titles and six finals appearances this year, improved his Masters Cup record to 13-4. No one has more victories in the tournament.
Saturday marked the first time that the top four seeded players reached the semifinals since 1990, when Stefan Edberg, Boris Becker, Ivan Lendl and Andre Agassi reached the semifinals."

"Lleyton Hewitt turned up the heat on Andy Roddick in the
battle for year-end No.2 when he rallied from a set down to defeat Spaniard
Carlos Moya 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4 at Tennis Masters Cup Houston on Tuesday.
The battle between the pair of former world No. 1 players only concluded after
an overnight pause due to rain. Hewitt stood two points from the first set when
rain prevented further play Monday night.
The Aussie came back out a day later only to drop the set, putting himself into
position to fight through in a contest lasting two-and-a-quarter hours on the
outdoor hard court.
The Australian produced 15 aces while never facing a break point. Moya, playing
for the first time in two months due to a shoulder injury, couldn't get past an
inspired Hewitt, locked in a battle with Andy Roddick and Marat Safin for the
No. 2 spot this season.
The Australian notched 39 winners - some punctuated by his trademark "c'mon" -
while converting on three of 11 break points.
Hewitt has now won his past four matches against Moya, standing 6-5 in their
series. The Aussie improved to 66 wins, 16 losses as the season wraps up."

Saturday October 9
Lleyton progressed to the semifinals of Tokyo.
"Lleyton Hewitt lost to Czech Jiri Novak for the first time in seven clashes to bow out in the semi-finals of the Japan Open yesterday after an unusual rain delay caused by an approaching typhoon. The fifth seed won 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 to advance to today's final against American seventh seed Taylor Dent, who eliminated Czech Bohdan Ulihrach 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.Besides an assortment of unforced errors from Hewitt, roof problems attracted much of the attention of crowd members, who at one point had to use their umbrellas as approaching typhoon Ma-on led to a suspension deep in the third set of the semi-final.With Novak leading 3-1, the torrential rain hammering the sliding roof started to come through in an expanding series of leaks. Play was suspended, but the incident only delayed the inevitable for Hewitt."
Lleyton will play only 2 more tournaments this year - Paris Masters Nov 1 and Houston Masters Cup Nov 15.
Sunday September 26

"Lleyton Hewitt crushed Joachim
Johansson in straight sets to reach the US Open final at Flushing Meadows.
Hewitt got to grips with the Swede's big serve from the outset and never dropped
his own delivery en route to a 6-4 7-5 6-3 victory.
The 2001 champion edged a tight opening set 6-4, gaining the only break of serve
in the 10th game."
Thursday September 9
"Former champion Lleyton Hewitt produced
near flawless tennis to beat Tommy Haas 6-2 6-2 6-2 and reach the semi-finals of
the U.S. Open on Thursday.
The 23-year-old Australian, winner here in 2001, was at his clinical best as he
crushed the unseeded German, extending his winning streak to 15 matches and
reaching the last four for the fourth time in the last five years.
Hewitt made just 10 unforced errors in the one hour 38 minute contest, closing
it out with forehand winner.
"That was some of the toughest conditions I've ever played in," said Hewitt, who
also beat Haas on the way to his first grand slam title." here three years ago.

boyfriend, Swede Joachim Johansson in the semi final. Johansson disposed of
Roddick, the defending champion, in 5 sets in their quarterfinal.

Sunday September 5
"LLEYTON HEWITT has produced a
near-flawless performance to charge into the fourth round of the US Open at
Flushing Meadows.
The fourth-seeded Australian, featuring in the marquee night match in New York's
Arthur Ashe Stadium for the first time since his 2002 semi-final loss to Andre
Agassi, didn't disappoint in a dazzling 6-1 6-4 6-2 dismissal of Spanish
left-hander Feliciano Lopez.
Hewitt, 23, will head into his next match against unseeded Slovak Karol Beck
brimming with confidence after cruising through the first three rounds without
dropping a set.
The 2001 champion made a lightning start against Lopez, winning the first 12
points of the match to race to a 3-0 lead before running away with the set in
just 17 minutes.
He didn't drop a point in four service games and made just one unforced error to
completely overwhelm the world No.32."
Friday September 3
Lleyton defeated Hicham Arazi in straight sets 7-6 6-1 6-2. "When 2001 US Open champion Lleyton Hewitt finally opened the toolbox during his first-set tiebreak with Hicham Arazi on Friday, the box was filled to capacity, right down to the needle-nosed pliers and 3/16 drill bit. Hewitt staved off two set points, then later hit a charging winner to take the tiebreak, 9-7, closing out a 59-minute set. He turned to the crowd, yelled "c'mon!" and pounded Arazi from that point on, winning by 7-6 (9-7), 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the third round of the US Open.Every shot was working for Hewitt, whether it be the basic, backspinning backhand or the charging forehand winner. Even when Hewitt was running the baseline, seemingly under duress, he hit low line-drive forehands with enough mustard that Arazi could barely handle them. "
Wednesday September 1
Lleyton continued his fine form with a straight sets win over Wayne Ferreira 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 in the 1st rd of the US Open. He will play either Ken Carlsen or Hicham Arazi in the 2nd rd.

"Lleyton Hewitt tuned
up for the U.S. Open by defeating Luis Horna of Peru 6-3, 6-1 on Sunday in the
TD Waterhouse Cup final for his second straight ATP title.
Hewitt, seeded second and playing as a wild card, won 20 of 22 first-serve
points. Horna, seeded ninth and seeking his first ATP title, committed 32
unforced errors.
Hewitt, the 2001 U.S. Open champion, closed the match with his 12th ace.
``My game has come together well, and I'm ready for the Open,'' Hewitt said. ``I
know what it takes since I already won it. It's going to be incredible. Seven
five-set matches. I am anxious to get going.''
The Australian has won 10 consecutive matches and 15 of the last 16. Sunday's
victory gave him four titles this year -- last week in Washington, with the
others in Sydney and Rotterdam.
``Usually I take off the week before the U.S Open,'' Hewitt said. ``But since I
didn't have a tough week in Washington, I gladly accepted the wild card.''
The U.S. Open, the year's last major, begins Monday. Hewitt, seeded fourth, will
face Wayne Ferreira in the first round. Ferreira, a 34-year-old South African
who turned pro in 1989, is retiring.
``That makes the match even tougher,'' Hewitt said. `` Wayne certainly doesn't
want to end his career that early.''
The US Open starts
tomorrow. Lleyton plays Ferreira in the 1st rd. He will play Tuesday or
Wednesday.
Saturday August 28
Lleyton is through to his 3rd consecutive final after
Tursunov retired with back trouble. Lleyton won 6-3 1-0.
"Lleyton Hewitt advanced to the
championship match of the TD Waterhouse Cup after a mere 43 minutes on court.
His first time opponent Dmitry Tursunov of Russia retired after losing the first
set 3-6, and down a break 0-1 in the second. Hewitt will play the winner of
tonight's match between Luis Horna and Paradorn Srichaphan.
Hewitt won the toss and served up the first game with two aces. He
continued to play aggressively and held serve at love in the fifth game which
ended with two consecutive aces. With his solid strokes, smart shot selection,
and dictatorial strategy, Hewitt plowed on, winning at love, once again, in the
next game. He then held serve to take a 5-2 lead, and ended the set with two
more aces at 6-3.
The second set saw only one game, in which down 15-0, Hewitt decided to
break and won four straight points. It was at this point that the trainer met
Tursunov at his bench, and he retired from his first quarterfinal match of his
career on tour.
Two-time defending champion Paradorn Srichaphan will be in action against
Luis Horna tonight at 7 p.m in the other semifinal."
Friday August 27
Lleyton defeated Chela 6-7 6-1 6-1.
"Hewitt demonstrated resiliency and fierce competitiveness to advance to the semifinals of the 2004 TD Waterhouse Cup over Juan Ignacio Chela, of Argentina, in three sets.
In the first set, the battle between the two baseliners was tense as both hanged in for long rallies before one would end up hitting an error......
Today, though, would prove to be a testament to the former world No. 1's talent and fighting ability, because although he was down, he was not out, which Hewitt proved by breaking Chela routinely, who produced so many unforced errors that he appeared to have run out of fuel in the tank following that first set rally. "

Lleyton was defeated in 3 sets
by Agassi 3-6 6-3 2-6. "A resurgent
Andre Agassi defeated tenth-seeded Lleyton
Hewitt 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 on Sunday to win the Cincinnati Masters tournament.
Agassi, the 11th seed, beat 21-year-old Andy Roddick in the semifinals, then
wore down the 23-year-old Australian Sunday. He broke Hewitt's serve three
times, after Hewitt had been broken only once in five matches.
Hewitt had problems with his serve in the first set. With Agassi leading 3-2,
Hewitt was serving 40-0 but lost four straight points before rallying to tie the
set at 3. Two games later, he lost the first point by double-faulting, then hit
the deciding point into the net to put Agassi up 5-3.
Still, Agassi had trouble putting away the set. Serving 15-40, he won the next
four points, including a 120-mph ace.
In the second set, Hewitt broke Agassi to take a 5-3 lead. Agassi seemed to be
regaining the pinpoint placement that had gotten better with each match, but his
shot on game point was a fraction wide, and Hewitt raised his fists to his chest
and let out a scream. He then served out the set to even the match.
Agassi broke Hewitt again in the third set to take a 3-1 lead, and Hewitt double
faulted on match point. "
Lleyton will play Washington DC August 16
Saturday August 7

Robredo 6-3, 6-2 in just 54 minutes to advance to his first ATP Masters Series

his first title since Rotterdam in February. The Australian moved into outright
fifth place in the INDESIT ATP 2004 Race, enhancing his chances of qualifying
for the Tennis Masters Cup, an event he won in 2001 and 2002 but failed to
qualify for last year.

"Cunning Frenchman Fabrice Santoro advanced to his first ATP Masters Series quarterfinal since Toronto in 2002 when he upset former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 at Tennis Masters Canada on Thursday night. Santoro had been a modest 11-11 on the season and had not reached a quarterfinal this year.
But the Frenchman has played some of his best tennis in Canada, where he has reached the quarterfinals five times, including three times in the past four years. He used his trademark spins and slices to unsettle Hewitt, who earlier in the day looked in top form beating Jiri Novak 6-2, 6-1. "
Thursday July 29
Lleyton defeated Novak in straight sets 6-1 6-2. He will play Santoro later today in a 3rd rd match.
Wednesday July 28
Lleyton defeated Nadal in one of his great comebacks! After losing the 1st set in a sorry fashion he rallied to win the match 1-6 6-4 6-2.
"Launching his hardcourt season build up to the US Open, ninth seed Hewitt was blown off the court in the first set before going on to beat the 18-year-old prodigy 1-6 6-4 6-2. Hewitt, who will play veteran Jiri Novak in the second round, said he was surprised at how just how much vigour Nadal had shown. "I'm not that old but he's a lot younger. He's bouncing around...and shows you that energy out there," Hewitt said. "His game was very explosive right from the start and I just tried to hang in there and hold my serve in the second set more than anything." Nadal has been touted as a player who could usurp Hewitt as the youngest to become world No.1, something the Australian did two months before his 21st birthday. "There's going to be guys coming up when they are 20, 21 and he is obviously a well developed kid for 18," Hewitt said of Nadal who climbed from No.818 in the world at the end of 2001 to No.34 in March this year. "He moves extremely well, he's hungry and he wants to win. He wants to beat the best players in the world. I know he's already beaten (Carlos) Moya and (Albert) Costa and those guys on clay and he can play on hard court as well. He's not one dimensional."
Monday July 26
Lleyton is playing the Masters Series Canada this week. He will play the talented Rafael Nadal in the 1st rd.
Saturday July 10
Lleyton has withdrawn from the LA tournament as his injured thigh has not yet recovered. He will play Toronto July 26.
Wednesday June 30
Lleyton was defeated by Federer 6-1 6-7 6-0 6-4. The scoreline doesn't reflect the intensity of this rain affected match . Lleyton fought all the way and definitely had his chances. A quad muscle injury, which occurred during the Moya match, impeded Lleyton's serving and steadily worsened as the match went on, however this doesn't take anything away from Federer as he played superb tennis. Lleyton will now play Los Angeles July 12. He is looking forward to being back on his favourite surface, hardcourt.

"A fired-up Hewitt confirmed he is a serious title contender with a hard-fought 6-4 6-2 4-6 7-6 (7-3) win over Moya. Seventh seed Hewitt looked in control at two sets up but could never relax, and Moya broke twice in the third. Moya fought back again in the fourth and saved a match point before Hewitt finally finished the Spaniard in the tie-break to set up a clash with Federer. "It's going to be tough - he's the form player and the defending champion," said Hewitt. "I'm looking forward to it but I'll have to step up a gear. I've got to go out and worry about my game. "We've had some tough matches in the past and I don't expect it to be any different this time."

"Lleyton Hewitt has brought
Goran Ivanisevic's career to a close with a straight-sets victory on Centre
Court.
Ivanisevic received a standing ovation after the 6-2, 6-3, 6-4, defeat, while
Hewitt maintained his perfect record against the Croatian.
Hewitt has not lost a set to Ivanisevic in their two previous meetings, both on
grass, and swiftly had the upper hand.
The Australian, who succeeded Ivanisevic as Wimbledon champion in 2002,
eventually took advantage of his fourth break point with a superb backhand
winner cross-court in the fourth game.
Hewitt, 23, then broke again to take the first set in 30 minutes."

Saturday June 12
"Andy Roddick finally got the better of Lleyton Hewitt and quickly rejected any
suggestion the Australian was no longer the tennis powerhouse he used to be.
Roddick cut short Hewitt's Wimbledon preparations when he knocked him out in
the semi-final of the Queen's Club championships in London, claiming a 7-6
(9-7) 6-3 victory.
It was the first time the American has beaten Hewitt in their four encounters
and raised questions as to whether the South Australian's game was where he'd
like it to be with a grand slam a week away.
Hewitt, a three-time champion at Queens, allowed world No.2 Roddick to break
him as he was serving for the first set and then lost the tie break 9-7.
But Roddick said there was no question Hewitt was as great a player as he was
in 2002 when he held the Wimbledon crown and the world No.1 ranking."
Friday June 11
Top seed and defending champion Andy Roddick broke his own world record serve to fire his way into the semifinals of the Stella Artois Championships. Roddick's 153 mph ace in the second game of the second set put the American on his way to a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Thailand's Paradorn Srichaphan. His win sets up a mouthwatering semifinal against Lleyton Hewitt, who moved a step closer to claiming his fourth Stella Artois title with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Russian Igor Andreev. Hewitt has now won 20 of his last 21 matches at The Queen's Club, and has a 3-0 head-to-head record against Roddick. This will be their first meeting since the US Open quarterfinal in 2001.

four-time champions at The Queen's Club, eventually booked his place in the last
eight against Igor Andreev with a 7-6(2), 7-6(8) victory over Marray, saving 11

Lleyton Hewitt needed three sets to defeat American Robby
Ginepri, but was able to hold off the younger opponent to clinch Australia's
victory in their opening match of the ARAG WORLD TEAM CUP.
Hewitt jumped on Ginepri in the first set but was down a break throughout the
second before breaking back and eventually forcing a tiebreak. But Ginepri hung
tough in the tiebreak and won his first set from the former World No. 1 in three
matches.
In the third, Hewitt's experience showed through as he pulled away from Ginepri

``One of the worst scheduling things I've ever seen,'' Hewitt said.
Tournament director Sergio Palmieri said he ``understood'' how Hewitt felt, but that the schedule was made by a small committee -- including a player representative -- and when the schedule ``is done, it's done.''

Wednesday May 5
ROME (AP) — Australian Lleyton Hewitt came from a set down
Wednesday to beat Italian wild card Andreas Seppi 5-7, 7-5, 6-3, and reach the
second round of the Italian Open.
The match began late Tuesday but was suspended due to rain with Seppi leading by
a set, and the second tied at 3-3.
Hewitt, seeded 15 for the Rome clay court tournament, looked in trouble before
the rain intervened.
"I lost a little bit of confidence in my first few games last night and I did
not play as attacking as I should have," Hewitt said.
The Australian, a former No. 1 player, appeared fresher after the overnight
break, winning the first two games then pulling away in the third set.
Seppi, ranked 216 in the world, was seeking his first victory on the ATP tour.
The two players — who both wore baseball caps backward over long blond hair —
displayed similar playing styles, with quick feet and aggressive ground strokes.
Boosted by home support at the start, Seppi lost his confidence as the match
wore on.
"I thought too much about this match, the tactics, how to play," said Seppi. "I
was a lot more nervous this morning."

"Lleyton Hewitt's decision to enter the World Indoor Tournament instead of
supporting his fiancee Kim Clijsters in Antwerp proved to be a smart move as
both emerged winners on Sunday.
In the past, Hewitt had spent the week in Belgium watching the progress of
Clijsters at the Antwerp Diamond Games.
However, he wanted a change this year and earned himself an early birthday
present by lifting the Rotterdam indoor crown on his first visit to the Dutch
port city with a 6-7 7-5 6-4 win over Juan Carlos Ferrero in the final.
"I didn't fancy doing nothing this week and as Rotterdam is close to Antwerp, I
decided to come here," he said.
When asked if he planned a big celebration with Clijsters, he replied: "No not
really, it won't be that much."
Hewitt, who turns 23 on Tuesday, followed Clijsters into the winner's circle
just 40 minutes after she had picked up the sparkling diamond racket trophy in
Belgium.
This was the second time the pair, who were engaged in December, have triumphed
on the same day.
The first couple of the tennis world both won at Indian Wells last March and
are now set to play a charity 'love match' on April 17 in Clijsters's home town
of Bree on April 17."

Friday Feb 20
Lleyton defeated Schuettler in straight sets 7-6 6-3.
"Rainer refused to budge an inch, so it wasn’t an easy match," Hewitt explained afterwards. "I am happy to be in the semifinals. I really can’t predict who I’ll play next. But I’m happy to play either Federer or Henman – my aim is to reach the final."
