on the other hand, it is a bit interesting that Serena can rejoin the Tour after about a two months' absence and easily take the year-end championship. Now this shows just how good Serena is, and perhaps if Lindsay had been fit she could have presented a challenge, but it also shows that things in women's tennis are a bit different than in men's tennis. As Leslie points out, you have Rios playing challengers, and Venus figuring that she can rejoin the WTA next year when she's ready. And when she does, she'll probably scoop up Grand Slams left and right. So please remind me again why women's tennis is way more interesting than men's?

Yes Susan
There is way more depth in mens tennis these days compared to the womens.

Poor Lindsay, that girl is so unlucky. But way to go Marcelo - yes indeed, Leslie, good to see him fighting and playing in lowly competitions, and it's paying off. Good for him. And well done to Seb, great result.

Could anyone tape an interview with Russell Crowe for me?Russell did an interview with Antonia Kidman on Sydney Fox 8 Premiere [aus]. It will be repeated on Monday 5th November at 10.30pm.I also found a gorgeous photo of Patty from Harcourt Gallery - here is a link: http://www.wistiti.fr/HomeV2/Partenaires/jeuxcadre.htm , click on Gallery 4 .- ULA

Wow! thanks Ula! All of those photos were really gorgeous! Especially the one of Pat, of course!
[R] - Kelly, Nov/4/2001 00:35:45 [+10]
Hi Ula, I get Fox 8 so will try and remember to tape it. Yep that is a lovely photo of Pat, I've had it on Planet Rafter for a while. It was taken a few years back

I'd be VERY happy if you could tape it,Robyn. Thanks in advance:)
[R] - Ula, Nov/4/2001 01:30:13 [+10]
Thanks Ula- very nice photographs, especially the one of Pat. Grosjean defeated Tommy Haas 7-5, 6-4 - Kafelnikov, a 6-1, 7-6(6) winner over Andreas Vinciguerra. If Grosjean beats Yevgeny - He's secured a spot to the Masters, if he looses to Yevgeny, Tommy will secure a spot. Either way they'll both be coming to the Masters - one will be an alternative.
[R] - prfan, Nov/4/2001 08:53:19 [+10]
Thanks, prfan. I heard from a friend who attended the match that Tommy was sick/injured during the match. So I hope he's okay. The race for Sydney has become very interesting, and I think the race for No. 1 will be very interesting as well -- as from what I understand, Guga, Lleyton and Andre have a chance there. I do think that the Champion's Race has added excitement to a part of the tennis year that everyone took for granted before. I know there still are people who don't like the Champion's Race, but I don't understand why. But for that, most of us would be snoozing right about now. It's good to have something on the line at this late date.
[R] - Susan, Nov/4/2001 09:32:28 [+10]
I don't mind the champions' race....actually, it's alot of fun. But my goodness! Can Patty Mac get any closer to kissing Agassi's touche? If he said once during the Seb-Yevy match that he thought Agassi would win the Masters', he must have said it a dozen times. I don't really know why he thinks Agassi is that hot right now....didn't he crash and burn out of his last few tourneys? But Patty Mac seems to think he's the hottest player around now. I think 7 other players may have a little something to say about that!
[R] - Leslie, Nov/5/2001 11:24:58 [+10] ![[new]](http://on.starblvd.net/cgi-bin/bbsinv?rafterbabble=tennisball.gif)
Leslie, I also was a bit surprised by that, but then again, Agassi came out of virtually nowhere last year and made it to the final against Guga in Lisboa. So perhaps Patty Mac was thinking of that (I can't even imagine that Patty Mac has a hope of getting Agassi/Sampras together on a DC team, but given the way things are going, perhaps we'll see Agassi/Sampras/Martin/Chang/Courier in DC next year, with a thanks-but-no-thanks to that upstart Roddick. *lol*). I have wondered whether Andre would even head to Sydney unless he had a chance to make No. 1. He has every incentive to stay home at this time. So if he goes, I expect he will be focused on the No. 1 goal. Why else would he go? But I totally agree that other players have the edge at this point.

Since when doesn't Patty Mac pick AA to win?

Thanks Ula. I used this pic as the background for my 2001 interviews page on Planet Rafter.

Can anyone tell me when they do the draws for the Masters Cup? More specifically, what days will Pat be playing, or will he play every day? I want to know because I want to take leave from work to watch when he's playing.
[R] - Annemi, Nov/2/2001 17:37:03 [+10]
Hi Annemi, the draw wont be done until a day or two before the tournament. Nole did say when it was, but I cant remember. Pat wont be playing every day. It is a round robin tournament with two groups of players. So I guess each player will play 3 matches minimum. the Cup site has more info - www.masters-cup.com/sydney. The link is at the top of the board.

I purchased my tickets online and there was a message there that the draw would be on Sunday 11th - the day before the tournament starts. Please send lucky vibes my way as because I bought the tickets online I am automatically entered into a competition to go to the draw ceremony.
[R] - (Author from 203.12.144.9), Nov/2/2001 21:21:42 [+10]
are you picking up your tickets at the stadium or are they being mailed to you? I've been debating about whether to try and get tickets ahead of time which for me would mean an online order with a pickup at the stadium. I wasn't sure if that was an option.
[R] - chris, Nov/3/2001 15:36:34 [+10]
That message above about the competition was from me- I could not post anything to add to my other message for some reason. Chris, I am picking my tickets up at the stadium. I was not sure what to do either but I am going with a friend who lives near there and he does this all the time and has had no hassles
[R] - Nole, Nov/3/2001 22:39:24 [+10]
thanks for the info, Nole. I'll log on to the masters site when I get into work tomorrow and see what they have left for Fri-Sun. This is one case where I think I'd still go even if Pat were no longer playing (perish the thought!) so I won't mind buying tickets ahead of time.
