LONDON (AP) - Lleyton Hewitt was picked today to replace injured Mark Philippoussis on the Australian team for the Davis Cup quarterfinal against the United States next week.

The 18-year-old, who reached the third round at Wimbledon before losing to Boris Becker, will make his Davis Cup debut in the July 16-18 match in Brookline, Mass.

Hewitt joins an Australian team made up of U.S. Open champion Patrick Rafter, Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde.

Hewitt and Rafter are expected to play singles, while Woodbridge and Woodforde - known as the ``Woodies'' - again will play doubles.

Philippoussis injured a knee during his Wimbledon quarterfinal against eventual champion Pete Sampras, and retired early in the second set.
