quarterfinal defeated by Roger Federer 6-3 6-4 no photos available
Swiss Roger Federer, the uncontested world No.1, continued his run by ousting Australian Lleyton Hewitt, 6-3, 6-4 Friday afternoon at the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank. The top seed started off slowly, losing his serve in the first game. He broke back in the next game to even things up and headed towards victory by breaking Hewitt in the sixth game. The remainder of the set was a mere formality for the agile Swiss. Federer broke Hewitt in the seventh game of the second set to dash the hopes of the Australian. The match lasted one hour and 25 minutes, with Federer nailing 13 aces and double faulting twice compared to Hewitt's five aces and four double faults. Master of the serve, Federer won an impressive 88 per cent of his first service points. It was the 19th meeting between the two players and the 12th win for Federer. Those numbers are misleading, however, since Federer has won the last ten matches.
